While I'm writing on each topic I welcome questions about resume issues and strategies. If you've come across new ideas that have had a positive benefit to your job hunting, feel free to share them here.

There are many ideas about what a resume can do for a job hunter. In areas where there's a good deal of money on the line, people have taken a much more serious approach to developing their resumes. Over the years I've seen developments in resume style that point to a definite "tightening-up" of resumes. Keep in mind that I have been a consultant in the technology field for almost twenty years. Where the money is good, the competition is rough. And nearly all of my contracts have been in financial services. That makes the competition that I've seen doubly rough.

People have tried many alternative ideas over the years but sticking to tried and true methods gets the best results on your resume. This focus has led to a good deal of improvement in the quality of the resumes that I've had the opportunity to review.

There are a plethora of sources for guidance on resume writing. In addition to books and a few seminars the Internet has spawned a good deal of material about what matters about creating a resume. The Internet has also made it easier to find people who are available as resume writers as well as for one-on-one consultations about career guidance issues.

The first and most important idea to keep in mind is that your resume is not supposed to get you the job. All your resume is supposed to do is get you in the door. Your resume must pique the interest of the Human Resources department reviewer as well as the hiring manager. At time when a good job will get dozens of resumes and a spectacular position will receive two or three times as many applicants, you'll need to craft a resume stands out from the competition without resorting to gimmicks. You've simply got to create your resume from a completely professional perspective and reinforce your professionalism through your handling of each item contained on your resume.
